But have you ever seen these four coloured dots or hearts or squares at the bottom or on the edges?
Have You Ever Wondered Why They Are There?
Though it's none of your concern, let's just say that an extra bit of knowledge would not really harm you. And if you're curious, it would just be another treat for you! So, let me first tell you they are there are for a reason and not for just design sake! Now, go ahead and know why!
Why They Are There?
So, these four colours are called CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). These four colours form the base colours for all colours used in printing. So, that means any colour can be obtained by using these in correct proportions.
Plates of all these colours are laid out on a page separately and lined up in the same spot while printing. This is necessary to print a full colour image accurately. If the images are somehow blurry and not crisp enough, you will find the colours overlapping or not in the same line.
This mark is called the "registration mark"
They Serve As The Printer's Marker
So, basically, these dots serve as the printer's marker to know that the newspaper pages are printed accurately. They will not have to physically check all the papers, they will know by having a look at these dots!
Before your curious mind goes on to check these dots on books, let us tell you beforehand, that while they are also printed on the books, they are cut off before the books are bound. However, since the newspaper are printed in bulk, the printers just let the CMYK marks be there!
